What’s so special about CCT’s Thermal Energy Device (TED)?

It’s the first working thermal battery using Silicon as a phase change material to be developed anywhere in the world.

How does it work? What is being stored/heated?

The battery works by accepting any form of electrical input and converting and storing energy as heat – making it versatile, affordable and long-lasting.

We use a unique phase change material (Silicon) that is melted and stored as heat energy. The energy is then extracted using a thermal process to provide energy when and where it’s needed.

This is the most energy efficient storage system the world has seen, storing energy at more than 12 times the density of a lead acid battery and 5-6 times that of Lithium Ion.

We’ve seen the impact unreliable power has had on Australian businesses – entire companies that have almost gone to the wall because they’ve been unable to service their customers during blackouts created by instability in the grid.

Our battery is efficient, affordable, versatile and long-lasting.

    It can store energy at more than 12 times the density of a lead acid battery and 5-6 times that of Lithium Ion.

    Its ability to store latent heat from an inexpensive phase change material and convert it to useable energy – to only be used when and where it’s needed – is extremely economical.
  • Versatile
    The battery is scalable. It’s not only suitable for renewable energy such as wind and solar, it’s adaptable to non-renewable energy sources from fossil fuels, biofuels and grid supply.
  • No negative environmental impacts
    Storing energy has environmental impacts that can help businesses achieve their sustainability goals.

The battery has no emissions itself and can be placed anywhere with no environmental impacts. It’s also completely recyclable.

Is TED safe?

It’s 100 per cent safe. We’ve spent the last seven years destruction testing the battery.

Why did you develop TED?

Australia has faced ongoing issues with its power supply for many years now. We saw a need for a storage system that Australians could trust.

What is the size of the TED?

The TED in its physical size fits into a 20 foot container and has a storage capacity of 1.2MWh. Output is dependant on application, it is scaleable and designed to be “plug and play”.

How will the TED be used?

TED provides an affordable, efficient and environmentally friendly energy source for the multiple applications.

It can power telecommunications networks, remote communities, transport systems, diesel replacement, grid scale battery storage, wind/PV battery storage, microgrids, residential development as part of large scale storage – with companies already showing interest in the mining, telecommunications, manufacturing and community development space.

Can TED be used for residential purpose?

TED will not be cost viable for individual metro residential purchases. It is available for remote off grid purposes eg; remote communities, farms etc.

How much does TED cost?

There are two financial models being developed the first an outright purchase of our RRP costing for a 1.2MWh storage device with 12kW output including additional ongoing maintenance costs to be negotiated; the alternative an up front % deposit followed by a leasing monthly payment plan to be negotiated with the buyer.

Will TED create jobs?

With the capacity to export this product globally, we expect production to increase significantly year on year creating hundreds of jobs locally, nationally and internationally.

In addition, TED manufacturing will create adjacent jobs in supplying the parts of TED for assembly.

CCT Energy Storage is a privately owned business; investment opportunities may become available on the launch of manufacturing plants in new international regions.
